AP English Language Exam

The AP English Language exam was something I stressed and worried about right up until the proctor called time to put our pencils down.  That morning, I tried doing several calming exercises to relax myself(none of them worked).  Before taking the exam, while waiting in the cafeteria, my friends and I were talking about how nervous we were that we couldn't study for the exam.  So many people felt they weren’t ready for the exam.  The night before the exam I was thinking of some of the things I could've and should've done to better prepare for the exam.  For example, I could’ve looked at past exam essay prompts and passages.  I also could’ve written more timed essays as practice for the real exam.  I might have felt a little more prepared if I had done those things.
My biggest concern about the exam was time management.  I was afraid I wouldn't finish the multiple choice and essays in time.  In all the in class timed essays I was always one of the last students scribbling words on their paper or I would have to guess on the last passage of the multiple choice practices.  Although I didn't finish the multiple choice part of the test, I did finish the essay section with extra time to spare, which I thought was an accomplishment for me.  Honestly, I feel pretty confident about my synthesis essay and rhetorical analysis essay, but not so confident about my argument essay and multiple choice.  For my argument essay, which I wrote with only 25 minutes remaining, I don't feel that my examples are strong enough.  For the multiple choice, I had problems with understanding the first passage and my mistake was that I spent too much trying to understand it.  Because of that I wasn't able to finish answering more than half the questions for the last passage.  I hope that I pass the exam with at least a 3.  I’m very relieved that the exam is over with and now all that’s left to do is wait.

  1. Hey Isabelle~ First of all, I don't have any doubts about your score, I think you'll do great :) You were different from me in the morning, I was studying like crazy, looking up rhetoric devices that I should've known before. Many of my friends also though that they weren't ready for the exam, but, to be honest, we had a good teacher who prepared us well, I just blame myself in the end. I had enough time to do all the essays, but my essays were still crap at the end of the day. I'm praying for a three, but I doubt life works that way :/

    1. I also tend to feel nervous on tests that I can't study for. The night before the exam, I told myself that I would not finish the test. However, I was able to finish the exam with just enough time. Also, I had trouble understanding the passages as well. What is your opinion of the rhetorical essay?

  2. Yea those calming exercises never work for me either, neither does meditation, although I wish it did. Everyone had doubts about the test and I think we all could have prepared more tbh. I'm glad you feel confident about your rhetorical essay, I know I don't. I also wrote my last essay in about 30 minutes because I spent too much time on the rhetorical. But i know I did well on the multiple choice.
Do you think that you could've understood the first passage more if you had more time?
